"Soaring Sounds - Centerville OH Show"
Cascades were the first world class group to perform, and after their opening statement I was surprised that they had been scoring so low. They were certainly better in person than what I had seen on the FN broadcasts. Guard had some very nice accent moments throughout the show with flags and branches. Hornline had a good sound to them and are getting better with their exposed passages. I think there's still time left for them to catch Pioneer this season. The crowd gave them a very good ovation after the performance.

"No Penalties - No Worries"
BROKEN ARROW - After some well deserved free time at Worlds Of
Fun amusement park, the Corps returned to competition in Broken
Arrow, Oklahoma. The Cascades had a wonderful performance and continued
to grow and perfect their 2009 production receiving a score of 68.80.
On Wednesday morning, the online drum corps community was baffled
with dci.org's listing of a 6.8 penalty, dropping Cascades score
Tuesday night to a 62.00. The accidentally incorrect score even
made its' way through other online score tracking sites.
It has been confirmed that this was a simple data-entry error and
the true Cascades score was indeed a 68.80 - continuing the clear
progress of our beloved Corps.

"Denver Edition, Part One"
Cascades - First brass hit was solid. Low brass sounds a little
thin from
this high up, but I expected that. Percussion is solid - Bass drums
and Tenors are locked
in solid and set up a nice grove. I like the wide open curvalinear
form that rotates into a diamond shaped block right on the second
major brass hit!.........

"Drums Along the Rockies: Windsor Edition, Part One.."
First up, the Cascades. The opening fanfare into Pan's Labyrinth
had some nice power and is very effective. Trumpets were a little
sharp and were sticking out of the ensemble a bit, but fell into
place by the end of the opener. Mellos have some nice runs and were
clean with good tone quality. Although there are only seven Tubas,
the sound was very full. Drum section was tight. Very nice silks
for the guard.........

"Skylar Injures Foot"
OGDEN - During field lining today, the stake that was holding
one of the guide strings pulled out of the grass, hurled into the
air by the tension of the string and struck Cascade Drum Major,
Skylar Belfry, in the right foot.
The stake penetrated Skylar’s foot and cracked the metatarsal
bone of his little toe. He was immediately taken to the hospital
where radiographs confirmed the fracture. As a result of this injury,
Skylar will not be able to conduct at tonight’s show in Ogden,
UT.
In his place, Assistant Drum Major Erica Buege will lead and conduct
the corps until Skylar’s foot is well enough to allow him
to stand on the podium. Assisting Erica will be one of the Cascades'
trumpet players, Jenny Daer, who will be acting as a field conductor.
We wish Skylar a speedy recovery.

"Drums Along the Columbia Review, Tri-Cities, WA"
Cascades- I actually got to see these guys dress rehearsal last
week and there full run yesterday. With that being said, their show
tonight was WAY better than either of the other two runs they had.
I talked to a bunch of the members though and they weren't very
happy with there performance tonight; they said their last one in
Portland was better........

"Members of the Cascades Drum & Bugle Corps Says it's
a Blast"
They're critiqued on the way they hold their instruments, their
footwork, their poise. If they march too fast or too slow, someone
notices. And if they lose their focus -- even for an instant --
someone is sure to tell them.
But as members of the Cascades Drum & Bugle Corps, the performers
have developed thick skin. They want to be great, and they know
their instructors share this goal........

June 25th, 2009 - DCP, Written by Mike Bujnowski, Chairman/President, NYMA & Cascades
"New Paint & Graphics For Cascades Trucks"
The Cascades have newly painted and added graphics to their equipment
and kitchen semi-trailers. The bold three-color paint and new Cascades
graphics will be easily recognized while on the 12,000 mile World
Class tour. The unveiling of the “new” equipment truck to the Cascades
members was at the June 5-7h weekend camp, and the kitchen a week
later at All-Days camp. Ron Comfort, Cascades’ Show Coordinator,
said “It’s amazing what a boast the truck paint jobs did for the
kids. While at camp spirits started high, seeing improvements in
our equipment seemed to immediately boast everyone’s confidence.".......

"Alarms and Photos"
Ron said all is good, there has been some strange moments during
the start. Miscommunication with the school, meant the members had
to get up on Monday and move everything out of the gym for another
group. He also said that Monday night, the fire alarm went off at
3:30am, everyone woke up and went outside. Alarm went off due to
a water pressure issue, no fire, thank heavens. And the exciting
journey begins!
